The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) renews Nigerian passports. You apply and pay online, then attend one biometric capture at a passport office for your photo and fingerprints. Your NIN is central to the application, and your name must match your NIN record exactly.

Have these ready. Snap papers with your phone camera. The form saves as you go, so you can leave and come back.
- Your current passport number, issue and expiry dates, and issuing office.
- A photo of your current passport’s data page.
- A digital passport photograph on a white background, without glasses.
- Your NIN. Your name must match your NIN record exactly.
- The booklet you want: 32 pages (5-year validity) or 64 pages (10-year validity).
- Your NPC birth certificate if you were born after 1992. It is mandatory for those applicants.
- Why you are renewing: expiry, damage, loss or full pages. A lost passport needs a police report, and a damaged one needs a photo of it.
- Your address, phone and email, and a next of kin’s name and phone number.
- The passport office where you would like your capture, and the originals of all your documents on the day.

Yes. The application needs your NIN, and your name must match your NIN record exactly. If your NIN has a mistake, correct it first with a NIN modification.
My passport was lost. Can I still apply?

My name has changed since my last passport. What do I do?

Do I need to go to a passport office?

Can I renew before my passport expires?
Yes. Many countries want several months left on a passport before they let you in, so renew well before you travel.
Do I need a birth certificate?
If you were born after 1992, yes. The NIS needs a National Population Commission (NPC) birth certificate for those applicants. The form asks the question and tells you what to upload.
How long does a renewal take?
