Some NIMC services cost nothing, and some do not. Standard enrolment is free, while changes, replacements and some extras carry a fee.
Here is what is free in 2026, what costs a little and what costs more. It is part of our NIN and NIMC guides.
What is free
| Service | Cost | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Standard NIN enrolment | free | Legit.ng reports NIMC calls a demand for payment illegal |
| Your first NIN slip | Free | Replacements cost more |
| NINAuth slip download | free | Do More with NINAuth, then NIN Slip |
| Enrolment for Nigerians abroad | free when they are in Nigeria | Needs a valid passport |
| Date of birth fix after a NIMC error | free if NIMC made the original error | Reports do not say how to claim |
Two rows need care. The first slip is free, but a replacement is not. The waiver applies to a NIMC error only, not to a mistake in the details you supplied yourself.
Free enrolment, and the paid extra
Legit.ng reported NIMC saying that enrolment is free at approved centres and that any demand for payment is illegal. Standard enrolment is free, and NIMC's May 2025 schedule confirmed it.
Premium enrolment is a separate, paid choice at ₦20,000. It is offered at licensed premium lounges, visa processing centres and pre-booked services. Read is NIN enrolment free and what premium enrolment costs for more.
Free for Nigerians abroad, when they are home
NIMC's diaspora guidance says Nigerians abroad can enrol free when they are in Nigeria, provided they hold a valid passport. Paying a licensed partner abroad is the alternative. See NIN enrolment for Nigerians abroad.
When a correction is free
NIMC has confirmed that a date of birth correction is free if NIMC made the original error. The rule behind it is Article 36(4) of the GAID 2025. It says that when a data controller or processor makes an error inputting personal data, it is corrected at no cost to the person.
Reports do not say how to claim the waiver, and NIMC's confirmation covers dates of birth. The post on the free date of birth fix has more.
The small charges
- USSD retrieval. Dial *346# to get a forgotten NIN. It costs about ₦50, and older guides still quote a lower price.
- Slip reissue. A replacement slip costs ₦600. The VIP-service reissue costs ₦3,500. That is the price of the VIP service, not of printing the premium slip yourself.
- Printing the improved slip yourself. You print it on plain A4 paper, front and back. NIMC's slip guide says self-printing is paid through Remita, so check the amount on the payment page.
What costs more
A date of birth correction is ₦28,574, and NIMC allows it once only. Other fields cost ₦2,000. Both figures date from 2 May 2025.
Paid, but priced differently abroad
Nigerians abroad pay a separate, dollar-based schedule. NIMC's May 2025 schedule lists $55 for a date of birth correction in Africa and $60 elsewhere, such as the UK, the US, Europe and Asia. Other modifications cost $10 in every international location.
For the full breakdown, see NIN modification fees for Nigerians abroad and diaspora enrolment fees.
Check before you pay
NIMC lists its fees at nimc.gov.ng/fees. The government fees tool puts NIMC beside other agencies. If someone asks for money for a service on the free list, read how to spot a fake NIMC website.
The NINAuth download is free, so try it first. If you need a replacement slip and cannot use NINAuth, a vetted partner firm can file a NIN slip reissue, and NIMC issues it. A NIN slip reissue needs no office visit.
Common mistakes
- Paying to enrol. Standard enrolment is free.
- Paying for a slip you can download free. The NINAuth download is free.
- Quoting the old USSD price. Older guides still show a lower figure.
- Assuming the waiver covers every field. NIMC's confirmation is about dates of birth.
